Minister Huda Oleru Hails Museveni, NRA For Uganda’s Peace Dividend
Hon. Dr Huda Oleru Abason, the Minister of State for Defence and Veteran Affairs, has commended President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the National Resistance Army (NRA) for their role in securing Uganda’s peace and stability.
She made the remarks while commissioning a historical monument in Masaka, marking the site where the NRA stationed an anti-aircraft gun during the 1985 liberation war to target Kasijagirwa Barracks, which was then under government control.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Oleru acknowledged the sacrifices made by President Museveni and his fighters in establishing peace, which has contributed to Uganda’s economic growth and stability. She also praised the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces for continuing the NRA’s legacy of national security and development.
The minister emphasized that the UPDF plays a role beyond military operations, actively engaging in community service during the annual Tarehe Sita celebrations.
She urged Masaka residents to take care of the projects handed over to them, including a newly constructed vendors’ market, a two-classroom block, and various essential supplies.
Masaka Resident City Commissioner, Mr. Washaki Ahamadah, applauded the UPDF for its support to local communities. He encouraged parents to educate their children so Uganda can continue to produce strong leaders dedicated to national service.
Other local leaders, including school headteachers and market representatives, expressed gratitude for the government’s contributions. They highlighted the significance of the historical monument and other donations, such as books, tree seedlings, reflector jackets, and sanitary facilities.
Among the key projects handed over were a permanent vendors’ market, a historical monument, a two-classroom block, 3,650 books, 173 tree seedlings, three mattresses, a delivery bed, 220 reflector jackets, mobile dustbins, toilets, and a water tank.
The ceremony was attended by Deputy Joint Staff Human Resource, Brig Gen Chris Bagonza; CEO Wazalendo Brig Gen Joseph Onata, senior army officers, district leaders, religious leaders, and Masaka City residents
