The 13th Edition Of The EAC Armed Forces Field Training Exercise Commences In Rwanda
The Hon. Juvenal Marizamunda, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Rwanda, officially launched the 13th Edition of the EAC Armed Forces Field Training Exercise, code-named ‘Ushirikiano Imara’, at the Rwanda Defence Force Military Academy in Gako.
The exercise, themed ” Strengthening the Security Sector Integration and Harnessing Common Interests Consistent with EAC Regional Peace and Security,” aims to promote regional cooperation and peace. Hon. Marizamunda emphasised the importance of cooperation among countries, stating, ” It is crucial for countries to embrace cooperation as it’s the best foundation stone for our desired long-lasting peace for the region.”
He encouraged participating forces to take the exercise seriously, learn from each other, and share experiences to strengthen regional cooperation and address security threats.
Col Deng Mayom Manyang Malaul, representing the EAC Secretary General, noted the exercise’s timeliness in streamlining security integration and evaluating the region’s readiness to respond to complex security situations.
Additionally, Hon. Sarah Nyirabashitsi Mateke, Uganda’s Minister of State for Defence and Veterans Affairs (Defence), visited the Ugandan contingent and commended their preparedness.
The exercise has brought together participants from all East African Community member states.
