NRA Managed Because It Had The Correct Principles – President Museveni
His Excellency Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, President of the Republic of Uganda and Commander-in-Chief of the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) attributed the success of the National Resistance Movement/Army during the liberation war to the correct principles it upheld.
“NRA managed because we had correct principles. We believed in patriotism, Pan-Africanism, and building a new society,” President Museveni remarked during the 35th Heroes Day celebrations held at Mpenja Church of Uganda Primary School playgrounds, under the theme “Hail Our Heroes: A Secure Uganda is Now a Reality.”
The President highlighted the significance of Gomba during the liberation struggle, noting that it served as a corridor for recruits from the South West to the Luwero area. He urged Ugandans to embrace government programmes like the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga to improve their livelihoods.
Minister of State for Luwero Triangle/Rwenzori Region, Hon. Alice Kaboyo, emphasised the importance of preaching and teaching peace and unity for sustainable socio-economic transformation.
She noted that the Office of the Prime Minister, through the Luwero Triangle/Rwenzori region Ministry, continues to support civilian veterans and communities, including constructing low-cost houses to improve living conditions.
President Museveni laid a wreath at the monument in memory of freedom fighters who lost their lives during the liberation war.
Forty-nine individuals received medals for their exceptional contribution to the country’s socio-economic transformation, including Sheikh Mohammed Bin Maktoum Bin Jumah Al Maktoum from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Hon. Joyce Ssebougwawo.
The event was attended by various dignitaries, including Vice President H.E Jessica Alupo, Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Anita Among, Deputy Speaker of Parliament Rt. Hon. Thomas Tayebwa, NRM First National Vice Chairman Alhaj Moses Kigongo, Prime Minister Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, Ministers, religious and cultural leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, among others.
