Defence State Minister Commends UPDF Engineers
The Minister of State for Defence (Defence) Hon. Jacob Oboth Oboth has today applauded UPDF engineers brigade for constructing health centres at a lower cost in Isingiro district.
Hon Oboth made the above remark while commissioning six (06) Health centres II constructed by UPDF engineers.
The commissioned Health Centres are Kagaaga HC II located in Ngarama sub-county, Kigaragara HC II in Kashumba sub-county, Kyabahetsi HC II in Mbaare sub-county, Birundoma HC II in Bukaanga, Rwantaha HC II in Rushasha sub-county, Rwanzogyera HC II in Rwanzogyera sub-county and a repaired Health office block at the district headquarters.
Hon Oboth recognized UPDF engineers for the timely and cost-effective construction of the project and also lauded the district leadership for all the support.
He added that UPDF engineers brigade built these facilities as directed by the President and Commander in Chief of the UPDF H.E Gen YK Museveni, indicating that all Ministry of Health and Education infrastructure to be constructed by UPDF engineers since the latter do a cost-effective role.
The Defence State Minister also added that UPDF Engineers perform quality work, in a timely manner and standardize their projects.
The Area Member of Parliament for Isingiro North County and Minister of State for Agriculture Animal Industry and Fisheries Hon Lt Col (Rtd) Bright Rwamirama thanked UPDF for the discipline exhibited throughout the construction, adding that this portrays UPDF as a true Peoples’ Army.
He added that residents have been saved from moving long distances in search of medical care, most especially expectant mothers.
He also recognized UPDF engineers for putting tax payer’s money to good use under the supervision of the UPDF Chief Political Commissar Maj Gen Henry Masiko.
Minister Rwamirama added that UPDF was entrusted to build hospitals and schools to save money since it is government to government, and therefore no need for borrowing. ” UPDF Engineers leave the site when works are completed, and all in all when the country is at peace, soldiers engage In productive activities known as Operations other than war,” he said.
The Commander of the Engineers Brigade Brig Gen Bekunda Besigye commended locals for supporting the project, noting that 30 percent of the work was done by them.
He assured Ugandans that UPDF has the capacity to construct and complete all its contracts.
Present at the function were Deputy CAO Isingiro district Mr. Ahimbisibwe Leonard, Deputy Chairperson LCV Mrs. Kamama Annet Mukama, district councilors and medical officers.
