Government Chief Whip Launches 14 Ambulance Boats in Amolatar District
The Government Chief Whip, Hon. Denis Hamson Obua on behalf of the President has presided over the launch of 14 ambulance boats in Amolatar District. The ambulance boats under the Ministry of Health are e in fulfilment of a pledge by the President.
Hon. Obua informed the gathering that the NRM government delivers is promises to its citizens and therefore a lot is coming. He said the ambulance boat was in fulfilment of a promise by the government and he urged the civilians to cooperate and co-exist with the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces Marines, who have the expertise on the waters and can pass on these skills to the civilians.
The Minister thanked the stakeholders like Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs, Ministry of Health, and all those who worked tirelessly to secure the fourteen ambulances that will be distributed to different islands. He said this effort will aid the fight against the loss of expectant mothers due to transport challenges.
Minister Obua applauded the Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Health and Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs/Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces that will aid the provision of technical, manning and maintenance services. Under the MOU, the UPDF Marines are supposed to provide 2 coxswains, a navigator and maintainer. The ambulance crew will be mandated to work with departmental health officers who will facilitate the requirements for the boat to move.
The Principal Operations Officer, Ms. Maria Nkalubo who represented the Minister of Health assured the gathering that the government under Ministry of Health is committed to improving the health services to the people of Uganda. She said that they will ensure strict and well-established ambulance services to various reach areas so as to prevent the deaths of expectant mothers and ill persons.
The responsibility of securing the boat Ambulance was entrusted to Chief Administrative Officer’s office but will be manned by the UPDF Marines.
The function was graced by the Kioga Constituency Member of Parliament, Hon. Okot Bitek Moses, Kioga North MP, Hon. James Olobi Dubai Kioga, District Chairperson Geoffrey Ochen, D/RDC Amolatar Hamid Lyavala among others.
