Hon. Jacob Oboth Meets U.S Ambassador William Popp, Calls For Deepening Of Relationship Based On Mutual Trust
The Minister for Defence and Veteran Affairs, the Hon. Jacob Marksons Oboth, met with the United States Ambassador to Uganda, William W. Popp, today at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs Headquarters in Mbuya.
Minister Oboth thanked the US government for its continued support towards regional security and the fight against terrorism. He noted that considerable progress has been made in the fight against the Allied Democratic Forces rebel group.
Hon. Oboth called for enhancing the relationship between the two countries based on mutual trust.
Ambassador William W. Popp said the US is committed to working with Uganda to provide collective support for peace resolutions.
He appreciated the Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) for ensuring security and peace at home and in the region, particularly in stabilising Somalia.
The Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Lieutenant General Sam Okiding noted that to maintain the peace and security achievements gained in Somalia, the withdrawal from the ATMIS mission needs to be reconsidered to avoid a backslide of all the progress made in the peacekeeping mission.
The Permanent Secretary Mrs. Rosette Byengoma also attended the meeting.
