“Thank You For Liberating The Country,” Says Hon Oboth
The Minister of State for Defence Hon Jacob Marksons Oboth has today thanked the founders of the Peoples’ Revolution for liberating the country from past bad leadership.
Hon Oboth noted this while launching the rotational Tarehe Sita activities that are being conducted under the theme: “Recognising the sacrifice of the founders of the Peoples’ Revolution for Social Economic Transformation” in Rwampara district.
He expressed his gratitude to energetic youth who initiated the revolution over 42 years ago, that’s Phase 1 in the 1970s and Phase 2 from 1981 to 1986, where the latter later metamorphosed from NRA to UPDF after a long protracted guerilla war.
He commended UPDF for its stewardship in transforming lives and observing discipline, character, and professionalism.
Earlier, Hon Oboth inspected a 2 class block and monument constructed by UPDF Engineers in commemoration of the 26 Heroes killed by bad elements during the struggle. He also planted a tree in recognition of the urgent call to protect the environment at Rwampara district headquarters.
The representative of the Chief of Defence Forces Gen Wilson Mbadi and Commander Land Force Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga noted that UPDF as a pro-people army is non-partisan and an all-inclusive force, ready to protect the gains of the Peoples’ Revolution.
He said the 36 rebel groups that UPDF has defeated reflect the sacrifice of the gallant soldiers.
Col William Rubarema who spoke on behalf of the Chief Political Commissar Maj Gen Henry Masiko re-echoed UPDF’s strategic partnership with the population to preserve peace and security.
The Woman Member of Parliament for Rwampara district Hon Molly Asiimwe commended President Museveni for his unwavering effort in making Uganda a peaceful country.
This year’s symbolic Tarehe Sita activities are being held in the Greater Mbarara Sub Region to trace and link the current peace, security, and development to earlier efforts in the struggle, particularly FRONASA.
They will include free eye and dental care, cleaning, fumigation, and lectures on the need for a correct ideology for future cadres, among others.
The function was also attended by civil and local leaders, General Officers, Senior Officers from security forces, and UPDF Officers, among others.
