Wazalendo Sacco Gives Back To The Community
Wazalendo savings and credit cooperative society has donated medical items to support the Tarehe Sita (Army week) activities. The function was held at Wazalendo SACCO Headquarters in Kiwatule Kampala.
The items donated included 10 delivery beds and 50 waste bins of 50 litres each valued at 12.5 million shillings only.
The Chief Political Commissar Maj Gen Henry Masiko who received the donated items on behalf of the CDF applauded Wazalendo SACCO for the generous support accorded to the UPDF for the extension to the community. “We have received many items from different companies but this Wazalendo donation is historic because the UPDF fraternity is making it within its resources.
“Your contribution will strengthen our efforts and enhance our presence and visibility in the community through such quick-impact projects,” said Gen Masiko.
Gen Masiko noted that fostering harmony and understanding between the forces and population is one of the core objectives of the UPDF.
He also thanked WSACCO leadership for opening branches in the cities which have also helped the UPDF to be visible within the business community. He concluded by pledging to deliver the items to the hospitals that shall be identified by the committee in greater Mbarara where Tarehe Sita shall be celebrated.
The CEO Wazalendo SACCO Col Joseph Freddy Onata who presented the donation on behalf of the chairman BOD Gen Sam Kavuma, informed the committee that the contributions were intended to touch the lives of the communities. He added that through giving back to UPDF Wazalendo identifies with UPDF which constitutes the bulk of its membership. According to the CEO, the donation is intended to appreciate the population for the strategic partnership with the UPDF. “It’s from the community that UPDF recruits its forces who eventually become WSACCO members. The community is thus our backbone so we want to ensure there’s that continuous connection between us and the society,” said Col Onata.
He also informed the Committee that during this Army Week, Wazalendo SACCO shall also extend training and share experiences with other SACCOS in the greater Mbarara region in best practices in SACCO governance and management.
He also noted that there is a lot that WSACCO can do to help other SACCOs to improve because SACCOs are better placed to mobilize capital and enhance productivity at the grassroots.
In attendance were: the Commissioner Human Resource Ministry of Defence Mr. Anguzu Cox, the Deputy CIMIC Col Sam Ntambirwe, Douglas Oyesiga representing Commander engineers Brigade, Col Dan Tizihwayo Secretary BOD WSACCO, Directors, Heads of Departments and staff of Wazalendo SACCO.
