UGANDA'S MILITARY DECORATIONS AND MEDALS

In the history of Uganda, there was no established way of recognizing the people who had contributed greatly to the shaping of this country. In 2001, the National Resistance Movement (NRM) and Parliament of Uganda passed a Law stipulating the details of type of medals to be awarded.

The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) awards various medals to honor the bravery, dedication, and exceptional service of its personnel. Among these prestigious decorations are The Order of Katonga, The Rwenzori Star, The Masaba Star, The Damu Medal, and The Luwero Triangle Medal.

These medals serve as symbols of the UPDF’s deep appreciation for the dedication and sacrifice exhibited by its members in the line of duty. They inspire the entire force and exemplify the core values of bravery, loyalty, and commitment to the nation’s defense. Recipients of these prestigious medals are held in high esteem, serving as role models for the next generation of soldiers in the pursuit of a secure and prosperous Uganda.
